Designing Summer Wedding Bouquets

Roses– Portland is called the “Rose City” after all! All around the city roses take center stage during the summer months. They are easy to grow and do a great job holding up as a cut flower in the heat of the summer. Now, thanks to great plant breeders, they are also available in almost every color and any shade of color you can think.

Dahlias– When these are in season at the end of summer (August and September), I will always try to incorporate them in everything. Bold, peppy and happy, they’ll bring life to your wedding flowers!

You can also consider incorporating succulents into your summer wedding bouquets. Considering they thrive in the desert heat and thrive with neglect, they are a great way to create a unexpected texture in summer wedding bouquets.

Another trendy option that is making a splash, is baby’s breath. This traditional filler flower is becoming the star in many flower chandlers, and monochromatic modern designs.

Summer Wedding Flowers on a Budget

If you’re looking for summer wedding flowers that are very budget friendly, consider using button chrysanthemums, carnations, daisies, larkspur, roses, stock and Zinnias. These beautiful options are on the less expensive side!

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you’ll find more expensive summer flowers, which include Orchids, Hydrangeas, dahlias, garden roses and possibly peonies. While these options are pricier, you can still use them as focal flowers surrounded by less expensive filler flowers and greenery.
